Backpack Explorers for Children
Wednesdays, 10:00 am – 11:00 am
Come on an adventure! Children ages 3-5 and their caregivers learn together through science, art, music, stories and culture with fun, hands-on activities. Explore the Museum’s nature trails and exhibitions with one of our incredible Museum educators! New themes weekly!
$15 per child. Members receive 20% discount. Non-members pay Museum admission for accompanying adult. $5 materials fee for siblings younger than 3 who participate in crafts.

OCTOBER 2 – OTTERLY AWESOME – Sold Out
Learn how fun a day in the life of an otter can be. Bounding, somersaulting and slip-sliding around the river, otters clearly know how to have a good time. Discover what makes these aquatic wonders so special.

The High Desert is known for windy weather, but what else can we learn about wind using observation skills and experiments? Learn how animals use the wind and create wind crafts of your own!
OCTOBER 23 – LEAVES NEEDLES CONES – Sold Out
Have you ever wondered how a mighty Ponderosa pine tree starts as a tiny seed? Practice your observation skills by comparing leaves to pine needles and become a tree expert.
OCTOBER 30 – NIGHT CREATURES – Sold Out
Watch as the world comes to life in the moonlight! Visit the Forest at Night experience and learn which animals are awake in the dark.
NOVEMBER 6 – CRITTER COLLAGE – Sold Out
Furry, feathery and scaly animals will inspire artistic creations. By exploring layering techniques of art, we will experiment with colors and textures to create our own masterpieces.
NOVEMBER 13 – AUTUMN IMPRESSIONS – Sold Out
Let’s go outside and be inspired by nature. Discover the beauty of the changing colors as we use the great outdoors in the heart of autumn as inspiration for our artwork.
