Code of Conduct Policy

We strive to be a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for everyone.

A visit to the High Desert Museum should be an enjoyable and memorable experience. To preserve that opportunity, we’ve created the following policy to share clear expectations for all.

By visiting the High Desert Museum, you are agreeing to comply with the following requirements for visitor conduct.

We expect that you:

  • Be kind and considerate. We do not tolerate harassment in any form.
  • Recognize that all people, animals and plants should be respected.
  • Remember that we welcome the public into this space, with staff, volunteers and guests from many different cultures and backgrounds.
  • Abide by the rules of the High Desert Museum and follow the direction of staff and volunteers when asked.

The following is prohibited:

  • Guns, knives and other dangerous weapons and devices on Museum property.
  • Failure to comply with a request, expectation or restriction that has been communicated by Museum staff or volunteers.
  • Disruptive or disorderly behavior, including running, yelling, threatening others or fighting.
  • Threatening or harassing behavior, unwanted attention sexual or otherwise, and inappropriate physical contact toward staff, volunteers or other visitors/guests.
  • Displaying physical impairment from alcohol or drug use, or the possession, sale, or use of illegal drugs on Museum property.
  • Leaving packages, backpacks, luggage or any other personal items unattended away from your vehicle. Ask admission staff where to store items.
  • Loitering or the assembly of groups who are not using the Museum for its intended purpose.
  • Not wearing a shirt or footwear.
  • The use of any tobacco products or smoking/vaping while on the Museum property.
  • Littering on Museum property.
  • Children under the age of 14 unaccompanied by an adult.
  • Eating or drinking in the Museum (with the exception of water) except in designated areas.
  • Use of wheeled devices including skateboards, roller skates, bicycles, scooters and shopping carts. Motorized ADA assistive devices, wheelchairs, walkers and strollers are exempt from this rule.
  • Pets or animals other than service animals. Please see our Service Animal Policy.
  • Museum parking lots are reserved for use by Museum visitors while visiting the Museum and for Museum staff, volunteers and other authorized vehicles. Oversized vehicles (over 19’ length) may park in designated areas. No overnight parking is allowed. Unauthorized and improperly parked vehicles are subject to impound.

How to report an issue

If you experience or witness inappropriate behavior, please contact a High Desert Museum staff member. Any reported allegations will be investigated promptly, thoroughly and impartially. Confidentiality will be maintained to the extent consistent with adequate investigation and appropriate corrective action. Consequences

This policy is in place to protect the safety of all visitors, staff, and volunteers of the High Desert Museum. Anyone asked to stop prohibited behavior may be subject to expulsion and/or the cancelation of their membership with no refund for any tickets or membership dues paid, as well as exclusion from visiting the Museum, attending events or membership.
