Hatfield Sustainable Resource Lecture Returns to the High Desert Museum
BEND, OR — After a year hiatus, the Doc and Connie Hatfield Sustainable Resource Lecture returns to the High Desert Museum on Thursday, November 11 at 6:00 pm. We are proud to set the stage for featured speaker Nikki Silvestri, founder and CEO of Soil and Shadow.
The Doc and Connie Hatfield Sustainable Resource Lecture, held annually at the Museum, was started by the Hatfields, ranchers from Brothers, Oregon and founders of the Oregon Country Natural Beef Cooperative. They sought to bring together communities often at odds to create dialogue towards finding a holistic approach to ranching, one compatible with healthy rangelands, riparian zones and watersheds.
“We are deeply honored to continue the legacy of Doc and Connie Hatfield,” said Museum Executive Director Dana Whitelaw, Ph.D. “The mission of the lecture and the Museum are aligned—to inspire conversation and connection. Every speaker brings a new perspective that sparks dialogue.”
Face coverings are required inside and outside of the Museum. The event is free and food and beverage will be available in the Museum’s Rimrock Café.
This year’s speaker, Silvestri, founded Soil and Shadow, a consulting firm that works in the agricultural sphere to bring social and environmental entrepreneurs more impact in their work and joy in their lives. Silvestri has traveled the world speaking about and strengthening social equity for underrepresented populations in food systems, social services, public health, climate solutions and economic development. Her numerous honors include the OxFam America’s “Act Local, Think Global” Award.
Past Hatfield Sustainable Resource Lecture speakers include Jason Miner, natural resources policy advisor to the Oregon governor; former Whole Foods CEO Walter Robb; Jon Griggs, manager of the Maggie Creek Ranches; Allan Savory, who developed the strategy of holistic land management; and Fred Provenza, Ph.D., professor emeritus in the Department of Wildland Resources at Utah State University.
