Embark on a compelling exploration of our community’s production and waste management practices. Across four exclusive behind-the-scenes events, the series will highlight different perspectives around what we make, what we toss, and what it means for our community. Through these experiences, we will develop a better understanding of our collective interactions with production and waste and what these interactions say about our community’s past, present, and future.
Event #1: Local Production and Waste Management

Delve into our local landscape of production and waste management with Bigfoot Beverages and the Knott Landfill. Through exclusive behind-the-scenes tours and insightful discussions, we will explore the journey of items from production to waste within our community.
Event #3: Waste Narratives and Collection at the High Desert Museum with Ellen Waterston
Wednesday, May 1 at 5:30 pm
Explore the collection at the High Desert Museum with award-winning author Ellen Waterston at this behind-the-scenes event. Through an exclusive peek into the collection, we will examine how we make decisions about what is worthy of preservation and how we, as individuals, relate to what we discard.
Event #2: Unveiling the History of Our Waste with U.S. Forest Service Archaeologists
Saturday, April 13 at 9:30 am
Join us with archeologists from the US Forest Service on a captivating journey to field sites in Sisters, Oregon. Together, we will uncover the narratives embedded in items that people in the past discarded and reflect on our community’s long-term interaction with waste. Delving into the narratives future archaeologists might extract from everyday items, we will forge connections between our shared past and the ever-evolving present.
Event #4: Celebration of Creative Possibility with Rubbish Renewed Fashion Show
Saturday, May 11 – 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Join us for the series finale as we celebrate the creative potential of waste at the Rubbish Renewed Fashion Show. We will connect with local designers and learn how they reimagine rubbish into remarkable fashion statements. This fashion show will highlight fresh perspectives on the possibilities of repurposing waste.
