Event 1: History of Horse Management
Thursday, April 16 | 5:30 to 8:30 pm
High Desert Museum
Go into the collection at the Museum with historian Leisl Carr Childers to consider how art, literature, and history have influenced public perceptions of horses over time and continue to shape management decisions today. Dinner is provided.

Event 2: Burns Wild Horse Corral
Saturday, April 25 | 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Meet at High Desert Museum
Visit the Oregon Wild Horse Corral in Burns to see how the corrals function and learn about the BLM’s role in managing free roaming horses. Also, hear from Julie Weikel, retired equine vet and former National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board Member, about the processes and decisions involved in managing these animals. Lunch is provided.

Event 3: Prineville Big Summit Wild Horse Territory
Friday, May 1 | 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
Meet at High Desert Museum
Get an up-close look at wild horse management in action on public lands. Join Forest Wildlife Biologist Monty Gregg and Range and Wild Horse Program Manager Jacob Young in the Big Summit Wild Horse Territory to see how horses are managed on public lands and explore the impacts they have on the landscape. Lunch is provided.

Event 4: Group Reflection with Ellen Waterston
Tuesday, May 12 | 5:30 to 8:30 pm
High Desert Museum
Bring your experiences from the series together in a guided reflection session. Led by award-winning author and Oregon poet laureate Ellen Waterston, participants will explore their own insights and perspectives on the series and hear from fellow participants. Dinner is provided.
