Are you a middle or high school teen or educator wondering how you or your students can create a more equitable nation? Then join teens from around Central Oregon for a virtual Youth Summit on Teen Resistance to Racial Injustice, part of a nationwide initiative led by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. Hear from teen and adult panelists at the national level who will convey stories of teenagers, past and present, fighting to address systemic injustice. The summit will be centered on the case study of Claudette Colvin—a 15-year-old Black student in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1955. Colvin refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus and testified in the legal case that brought an end to segregated busing in Montgomery. Then, join a discussion led by local teens who reflect upon the national conversation and how it relates to local issues. Don’t miss this chance to examine the power of teens to fight systemic racism in our community and beyond.
