College Series: Water in the High Desert

Are you wondering how you can get involved with the world around you? Want to build your resume and your worldview? Join this free, four-part program, designed for college students interested in real conversations, community building, and practical skills that go beyond the classroom as we explore different perspectives around water in the High Desert.

This series will be hosted at the High Desert Museum, and transportation from COCC will be made available.

Meet at High Desert Museum

Geologist Daniele McKay will take us on an immersive tour of sites along the Deschutes River to learn about the science of water. Dinner is included.

Thursday, October 8 | 9:30 am to 4:00 pm

Meet at High Desert Museum

Join Josh Bailey, General Manager for the North Unit Irrigation District, on a tour to learn about how farmers in Jefferson County manage water while leading global production of carrot seeds. Lunch is included.

Event 3: Tribal Sovereignty & Water Rights

Tuesday, October 20 | 5:30 to 8:30 pm

High Desert Museum

Bobby Brunoe (Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs) will explore tribal sovereignty and treaty rights in relation to water in the region. Dinner is included.

Event 4: Reflections on Water

Tuesday, November 10 | 5:30 to 8:30 pm

High Desert Museum

Author and Oregon Poet Laureate Ellen Waterston will guide participants through a spirited reflection of what we discussed during the first three events. Dinner is included.
