Where to go

It’s a 15-minute walk from Admissions to the trail entrance just north of the High Desert Ranch and Sawmill.

A Museum staff member will meet the group at this trail entrance, collect tickets and explain about the flight show. It’s another 400 yards to the clearing where the flight program takes place.

What to expect

Raptors of the Desert Sky is a summer program presented by the Museum wildlife staff and volunteers. It has been in action for years and is a popular experience for many. The program lasts up to 30 minutes and includes narration and education about the birds as well as information on how we can help protect and conserve birds of prey in the wild.

You can expect to see and hear birds of prey of various sizes fly over your head while you sit in a natural amphitheater. Keep hands and phones low for your safety as well as the bird’s.

Owls, falcons, hawks, eagles and turkey vultures are part of the program though all are a surprise for visitors as no two programs are alike.
